The Obvious Few Release “Marry the Girl” with an EP on the Way
Amarillo band, The Obvious Few just released their new single “Marry the Girl” on July 11. This heartfelt track follows their recent breakout single “Tonight I Drink” and continues their strong push toward a debut EP.
Formed three years ago, the band originally performed under the name Christopher and The Obvious Few. As members changed and the group solidified into its current lineup, they became simply The Obvious Few. The band now features Christopher Erin (vocals, guitar), Jeff Langehennig (lead guitar), Dylan Hurst (rhythm guitar), Jarett Thompson (bass), and Trey Witts (drums). For nearly a year, this lineup has been playing shows across Texas and building a reputation for high-energy performances filled with raw emotion and musical chemistry.

“Our shows are energetic and fun. We always try to connect with the crowd and bring them into the moment,” says Christopher. “People come out for that kind of energy, and we give it everything we have.”
“Marry the Girl” is a love song originally written for a friend’s wedding. Inspired by Christopher’s relationship with his own wife, the track tells a story of falling in love, building a life together, and watching that story grow through generations. It’s a celebration of life and love sparked by the question, “will you marry me?”
The band’s previous single, “Tonight I Drink”, takes a different emotional turn. Written about the moment someone receives that “gut-wrenching” breakup text, the song explores how quickly heartbreak can spiral into self-reflection at the bottom of a glass. “It was just one of those nights when I had an idea,” Christopher says. “I started it in my garage with a friend, and then I took the lead on writing the rest.”
Though it was written three years ago, “Tonight I Drink” has changed significantly over time. What started as a slower song evolved into a grungier, more intense track after months of live performances with the current band. “The original version was way slower. As we kept playing it, the energy shifted. We added speed, riffs, and a bigger sound. Now it’s one of my favorite songs to perform.”
The recording process for “Tonight I Drink” came with its own set of challenges. While most of their music is recorded in their own studio, this track had to be finished across two different buildings due to a time crunch. “It was the roughest one we’ve ever recorded,” Christopher explains. “But it came together, and the crowd really connects with it.”
The track features the line “I can’t believe you left me high and dry,” which remains one of the most emotional parts of the song. “That line hits every time. It always hurts the most.”

Both singles are part of a larger plan. The band is currently on a streak of releasing love and breakup songs that will eventually lead into a full EP later this year. However, the EP will take a different direction. “The songs on the EP won’t have anything to do with love. Right now, we’re just releasing what makes sense for this moment, but we’re excited to show people the other sides of who we are.”
Musically, The Obvious Few draw from influences like Treaty Oak Revival, Whiskey Myers, and Shane Smith & the Saints, blending storytelling with a gritty, Southern rock sound. They’ve developed a studio and songwriting approach they call “kiss it,” short for “Keep It Simple, Stupid.” By stripping things down and staying focused, they’ve found more clarity in their sound and message.
With a full calendar of shows and new music on the way, The Obvious Few are making their mark on the Texas music scene. Whether they're delivering heartache or celebrating connection, their songs are built to hit hard and stick with you.
