Grant Fithen Releases Reflective Instrumental Single “Daydream”

On September 26, 2025, guitarist Grant Fithen, owner of Loud and Heavy Booking and guitarist for Ghosts of Gray County, released “Daydream”, his first solo instrumental track. The song introduces a different side of Fithen’s creativity, offering listeners a piece that is personal, nostalgic, and deeply reflective.

The idea for “Daydream” came about during a casual FaceTime conversation. “A friend asked how to write the music for a song,” Fithen recalls. “I told her I just pick chords that fit my mood and start from there.” Within ten minutes, he had sketched out what would become the heart of the track.

The mood of “Daydream” is airy and bittersweet, built around tones that carry a sense of wandering reflection. “Nostalgia can be either happy or sad depending on the memory,” Fithen explains. “Even a happy memory can make you sad that it seems so far away. The bittersweet feeling of an airy sound just makes my mind wander and think about the past.”

Recorded in under two hours with the help of his friend Ri Wolf, the track was captured in a single take on one guitar. Two microphones preserved the performance, one run through a swelling lo-fi ambient effect and the other with light reverb to bring out clarity. The simplicity of the process reflects the honesty of the piece. “It feels vulnerable,” Fithen says. “To me it’s like the world can hear my memories.”

The cover art, created with Tyler McElreath, ties into the song’s themes of memory and movement. Featuring a foggy open road with no-passing lanes, it mirrors the way Fithen approaches daydreaming. “You can’t just skip to the parts you like,” he shares. “You have to think about it all. The happy and the painful. That’s how you learn and move forward.”

“Daydream” also marks the beginning of Fithen’s debut album Growing Pains. While the project will remain primarily instrumental, an alternate version of “Daydream” with a guest feature is already on the horizon. Though he enjoys songwriting and singing in private, Fithen is focused on building a catalog that reflects his broad influences and love of instrumental storytelling.

More than anything, he hopes the song offers space for listeners to pause and reflect. “It calms my cluttered mind and lets it breathe,” he says. “I want people to feel that same space to think about their own memories, to daydream for a while.”
