Clever Violet: A “Loud AF” Rock Band Emerging from Kansas
Clever Violet is a new force in the Kansas music scene, blending raw energy, heavy riffs, and heartfelt lyrics into something entirely their own. Officially formed in May, the band began as a studio project when guitarist Robert teamed up with vocalist Daphne “Ikky” to rework some of Robert’s demos. The project grew from a small start into a complete lineup with Jeremy on guitar, JD on bass, and Eddy on drums, evolving into something far beyond their expectations.
A Sound That Hits Hard

Ask Clever Violet to describe their sound, and you’ll hear one answer loud and clear: “Loud AF.” Their music is a mix of alternative rock, grunge, punk, and early 2000s nostalgia. Some members hear it leaning toward Midwest emo, others toward grunge, but what they all agree on is that it’s unapologetically loud and unapologetically them.
They jokingly call it “grungy with y’allternative vibes,” but the influences run deep. Eddy brings decades of experience from Wichita’s ’90s rock scene, Jeremy pulls from emo and punk, Robert drives the heavy guitar tone, and Daphne ties it all together with emotionally charged lyrics.
Finding Their Place in the Local Scene
Though still new as a band, Clever Violet is already finding their footing with local shows. They’ve played just a handful of gigs so far, but each one has helped build momentum. The Hyde Out in Wichita has been a favorite stop, where a small but passionate crowd broke out into a mosh pit, matching the band’s energy.
For members like Jeremy and Robert, the Salina music scene has provided a sense of community and inspiration, while Eddy has enjoyed reconnecting with live music after years in the industry. Together, Clever Violet is carving out their own space and connecting with listeners who are drawn to their unpolished, honest approach.
DIY Creativity in the Studio
Currently, the band is recording in Jeremy’s basement in true DIY style. The process is hands-on, experimental, and focused on authenticity. “We want to keep an authentic sound that sounds like us live, no processed drums or vocals,” Jeremy says.

Songwriting often begins with Robert’s riffs, which the band builds out during practice. Many of their current songs came from happy accidents, moments where something clicked in rehearsal. Daphne writes the lyrics, often pulling from personal experiences, while the band helps shape the final sound.
Connecting with Fans Online
Clever Violet’s social media presence has been just as important as their live shows. On TikTok and Instagram, the band leans into humor and authenticity, sharing memes, inside jokes, and behind-the-scenes clips. “Social media reflects our personalities,” Daphne explains. “Everyone has access to the account, so there’s no AI.”
The approach has helped them connect with other bands and expand their reach, even beyond Kansas. Fans respond most to the casual, funny moments that show the band’s personality and camaraderie.
Loud AF Live Energy
At their core, Clever Violet is a live band. Their shows are high-energy and chaotic in the best way with mosh pits, headbanging, and plenty of crowd interaction. Robert has even taken his wireless guitar into the audience mid-song. “We try to make the show as entertaining as possible,” Daphne says.
Looking ahead, the band hopes to expand into Kansas City and Omaha, with long-term dreams of playing major venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
What’s Next for Clever Violet
Fans can expect new recordings, more merch, and additional live videos in the months ahead, including a performance of their song “Stop.” The band is focused on capturing their sound in the studio while continuing to play shows and grow their reach.
When it comes down to it, Clever Violet’s mission is simple: to create music people can feel. “My goal is to make music for others to relate to,” Robert explains. “I want them to feel our feelings.” Daphne adds, “I hope people feel a sense of connectivity, a sense of belonging. Sometimes throwing yourself against other people in a small room helps you feel better.”
With their mix of grit, humor, and heart, Clever Violet is quickly proving that they’re a band worth watching.
