Ghosts of Gray County Find Release in New Single “Got To Give”

On September 26, 2025, Ghosts of Gray County released their newest single, “Got To Give,” a track born out of personal loss, heavy emotions, and the resilience that follows when life feels like it’s pushing from all sides.

The song was originally written by guitarist Jerred Tibbets after the passing of his father. Out of that grief and stress came the phrase something’s got to give, a thought that stuck in Tibbets’ head until it naturally formed into both lyrics and sound. From there, he brought the idea to bandmate Taylor, and eventually the rest of Ghosts of Gray County, who shaped it into the finished track. The band then headed into Fort Worth Sound with engineer Bart Rose, who guided them through the tones, preamps, and mics that would best capture their vision.

A Darker Sound

Sonically, “Got To Give” leans into heavier tunings and a grungier feel, drawing comparisons to Alice in Chains while still keeping the haunting, melancholic edge fans have come to expect from Ghosts of Gray County. The band even experimented with creative post-production touches, such as guitar scrapes, feedback noise, and a sub-drop to deepen the sense of tension.

“It reflects a change going to heavier tunings and heavier music,” they explained. “We’ve grown on our creative side of getting tones and post production ready.”

A Theme Listeners Can Relate To

While the song is rooted in personal loss, the band sees “Got To Give” as something broader, meant to resonate with anyone struggling through difficult times. “If you have a shitty job, loss, heartbreak, bad luck, then this song can be for you,” they said. “Sometimes something does have to give and we hope this song gets people through that time.”

One line in particular stands out to the band: “Can you tell me if this is real?” A lyric that captures the disorientation of grief and stress, where life feels almost too heavy to be believed.

Release Plans and What’s Next

“Got To Give” officially dropped on September 26, timed with a live show at The Lumberyard where Ghosts of Gray County shared the stage with Rhett Embry. Promotion will roll out through a targeted social media campaign aimed at boosting Spotify growth, accompanied by visuals designed to capture that “overwhelmed, fed-up feeling” that drives the song.

Though details are still under wraps, the single is part of a larger project the band is currently working on. Fans who have already heard “Got To Give” live can expect a few differences between the stage and studio versions, particularly in improvised guitar solos, but the emotional core remains the same.

Growth and Reflection

For Ghosts of Gray County, this release represents not only a musical shift but also personal growth. “Being nervous is horrible for a studio setting,” Grant reflected. “Relax and be easy to work with and open minded. You can always get better and see things you could now do better, but be able to appreciate what you have done in the past.”

Above all, the band continues to use music as an outlet, both for themselves and for their fans. “We have had times of struggle amongst our lives and band but we have always believed in the music, and this is an example of it. With Jerred having hard times but believing in the music to use as an outlet for himself and maybe help our fans too.”

Ghosts of Gray County’s “Got To Give” is available September 26 on all major streaming platforms. Follow their journey with us at Loud and Heavy Booking.
