The Obvious Few Lean Into Destiny With Powerful New Single “Fate”

Amarillo’s own The Obvious Few are kicking off the year with a song that feels less like it was written and more like it was meant to happen. Their new single, “Fate,” released on January 23, captures the raw, unfiltered energy that defines the band while marking a confident step forward in their evolving sound.

According to frontman Chris, the song came together in a way that almost mirrors its title.“Fate came together one night at practice,” he explained. “Trey Witt, our drummer, brought the melody with a handful of lyrics. I threw a couple chords down, then the next thing we knew Jeff had this riff we had been working on that fit perfectly. Just like that, ‘Fate’ came to life.”

What makes the story even more impressive is the speed. The band wrote the entire song, including everyone’s parts, in just 45 minutes. They debuted it at their very next show and immediately knew they had something special. “That was the moment we knew it was a good one,” Chris said.

The Sound That Defines Them

For The Obvious Few, “Fate” is not a departure. It is a declaration. “This song is the pinnacle of what The Obvious Few sound like,” Chris shared. “We had recently added Jeff, our lead player, to sing background vocals. When we started recording and adding harmonies, we knew the chorus was going to be catchy.”

Those layered vocals helped shape a fuller, more dynamic sound while still holding onto the grit and heart that fans have come to expect. The band describes the track as raw and honest, the kind of song that sets the tone for who they are and what they want to be known for.

In fact, the opening lyric, “I’m going back to my old ways,” really says it all. The line reflects the band’s commitment to staying grounded in their roots. At the same time, it shows their determination to keep growing musically.

Amarillo at the Heart of It All

The Obvious Few wear their hometown pride on their sleeves. After playing all across the 806 throughout 2025, the people and places of Amarillo remain central to their inspiration. “Amarillo is our home,” Chris said. “The people we see here are who we write these songs for.” That connection to their local community fuels not just their lyrics but also their work ethic. When it comes to the band’s chemistry, every member plays an essential role.

“Everyone has a job,” Chris explained. “We’ve tried practicing without one person there and it just isn’t the same. We don’t even like to practice unless all of us are there. The sound just isn’t there without everyone.”

That tight knit dynamic is part of what gives “Fate” its punch. It is not just a song written by a band. It is a song built by a unit.

A Big Year Ahead

“Fate” is only the beginning. The Obvious Few have ambitious plans for the rest of the year, aiming to release as much music as possible. If all goes according to plan, fans can expect a new single every month.

Up next is a love song titled “With You,” set to release February 13, just in time for Valentine’s season. Looking further ahead, the band has big dreams for where their music could take them. When asked where they would most love to perform “Fate,” Chris did not hesitate. “A sold out show in Stephenville,” he said.

As for dream collaborations, they have their eyes on Texas favorites. “Either Koe or Treaty Oak,” Chris added, hinting at a future that could see The Obvious Few sharing the spotlight with some of the region’s most respected names.

A Song Meant for the Big Screen

Even in the studio, “Fate” brought its share of memorable moments. Chris laughed recalling the vocal sessions, where the band spent time experimenting and figuring out harmonies together. It was a fun and creative process that helped bring the song’s emotional core to life.

What if “Fate” were part of a movie soundtrack? “I’d say probably a thriller or a rom com,” Chris said. That mix of intensity and heart sums up the track perfectly. “Fate” is driven and dramatic, yet deeply human at its core. It is a song about identity, choices, and the pull of who you really are.

With this release, The Obvious Few are not just putting out another single. They are planting a flag and making a bold statement about who they are as a band, both musically and creatively. “Fate” captures the energy, heart, and authenticity they want listeners to associate with their name, serving as a defining snapshot of their sound.
